Front doors

The only part
people touch

Your windows get looked at. Your front door gets held, every day, by everyone who comes in. That is why with a door we look first at the weight in the hinges and the sound of the lock, and only then at the colour.

a side light brings daylight into the hall without the view in

What matters

Four things you feel every day

How heavy the door hangs

A good door feels solid and does not swing shut in the wind. That comes from the core of the panel and from three sturdy hinges, not from the thickness of the profile alone.

How the lock sounds

A multipoint lock with hooks makes one calm sound on closing, not a rattle. If you hear it clatter, the keep is out of adjustment, and no new cylinder fixes that.

Whether your feet get cold

The threshold is the weakest line of any door. A threshold with a thermal break is our standard, because otherwise that is where the cold you feel in the hall comes in.

What you see in the hall

A solid panel gives calm but makes the hall dark. A side light in obscured glass brings daylight without anyone looking in. You notice that difference every morning.

Material

What we choose, and why

aluminium

For a taut panel

Stays flat, even on a large panel in a dark colour facing south. A wooden door in dark anthracite in the sun starts to move after a few years; aluminium does not. On modern facades this is our standard.

pvc

For a good price

Insulates excellently and asks nothing in maintenance. The profile is wider, which matters less on a door than on a window. In very dark colours on a south facade we advise against it.

wood

For a facade with character

On a house from the twenties or thirties there is no substitute. It does ask for maintenance, and the door facing sun and rain asks first. Anyone who knows that gets the finest entrance in the street.

Questions

About front doors

Can the door take the same key as my back door?
Yes, with keyed alike cylinders. That is specified at order stage, because changing it afterwards means buying new cylinders.
Is a glazed door less secure?
Not if the glazing is laminated and the inside handle cannot be reached through a hole. The combination of laminated glass and a lockable handle settles that.
What about a fingerprint reader or an electric lock?
That is possible, and it works well as long as the mechanical locking underneath is sound. Electronics on top of a weak lock do not make the door safer, only more modern.

Come and feel the samples

A door is judged with your hand, not your eyes. We bring the samples to your entrance.
